Network Changes Name
After 15 years of being known as the New Jersey Polio Network, we’ve decided to move the words around to be also known as (aka) the Polio Network of New Jersey. We’re doing this to make it easier for individuals to identify us on lists of services that appear in newspapers and elsewhere. We found our polio identity was being lost within the many disparate listings that start with "New Jersey." So bear with us—we’ll be using both names for a while.
Once again there is an active PPS support group operating in Ocean County. They opened their doors on April 30 to welcome 28 people (including PNNJ President Arthur Siegfried) to their first meeting, held at Health South in Toms River. Susan Payne Gato and Kevin Marie Moore are co-chairs. Dorothy MacDowell, former leader of the former Ocean County group, is the treasurer. Susan said that their membership is now about 40. The group also hosts a website: www.tomsrivernjpolio.org.
A goal of the group is to educate polio survivors, significant others, doctors, health care workers, businesses, municipalities, and the general public, according to Susan. They also want to provide a network of support and encouragement through their website, e-mail, phone calls, and personal contacts.
We welcome this newest, and very enthusiastic, support group to the Network.
