Broadway in Austin's & Juliet: A Fresh Take on Shakespeare (2026)

Get ready for a fresh take on Shakespeare's timeless tale with Broadway in Austin's latest production, & Juliet. This high-octane musical is a bold reimagining of Romeo and Juliet, asking the intriguing question: what if Juliet's story didn't end with Romeo?

In this captivating twist, Juliet embarks on a journey of self-discovery, making mistakes and realizing her power to shape her own destiny. It's a story of empowerment and inclusion, featuring a diverse cast that brings to life narratives of female strength, queer love, and the idea that love and self-realization know no age limits.

A Musical Extravaganza

At the heart of & Juliet is a brilliant concept that breathes new life into a classic story. Fabiola Caraballo Quijada, a Texas native and the talented actress portraying Juliet, shares her excitement: "What if Juliet hadn't ended it all over Romeo? What if that was just the beginning?"

The musical's score, a collection of chart-topping hits by pop maestro Max Martin, adds an extra layer of excitement. "It's the best soundtrack ever!" exclaims Caraballo Quijada. From Britney Spears to the Backstreet Boys, the audience is treated to a non-stop parade of familiar tunes, reimagined for this unique production.

A Texas Star's Rise

For Caraballo Quijada, this role is a dream come true and a significant moment in her career. A Jimmy Awards alum, she credits her Broadway journey with preparing her for the challenges of touring and performing in a major national production. "It was an intensive Broadway boot camp," she says, "but it was also the best summers of my life. I learned so much, and made incredible friends along the way."

Beyond the Music

While the pop songs and witty storytelling are sure to delight, & Juliet offers much more. It's a celebration of identity and inclusion, with stories that resonate with audiences of all backgrounds. "Our cast is incredible," says Caraballo Quijada. "We have so many diverse stories to tell, and it's a joy to be a part of this positive, uplifting show."

A Shakespearean Twist

If Shakespeare were to witness & Juliet, Caraballo Quijada believes he'd have a mixed reaction. "At first, I think he'd be proud, but then a little offended when he realizes we've put our own spin on his classic. But by the end, I think he'd understand and appreciate the new perspective."
